I was introduced to the Lord and His Holy Spirit at the age of 13 years. I experienced a powerful encounter with the Holy Spirit that was a constant thought as I began to serve the world for the next 22 years. Football and weight lifting got the better part of my life until I told the Lord nine years ago that I finally surrendered and I would serve Him.
I soon adopted the ideal that I, as a true Christian, could no longer be a coach in the public school due to my competitive nature and aggressive coaching style. I constantly had thoughts that “how could I serve the Lord and push others to perform like I did before?” The fact that I was thinking I needed to get out of the public school should have been a sign that the enemy knew I was called to minister in that exact place.
A meeting with a father in the faith, who gave me a word, set me free. He said, “When the Holy Spirit is ready for you to quit coaching He will let you know.” Following this word, I had a dream where God revealed to me to take Him everywhere I go.
I immediately started putting my Bible on my desk and reading the Word anytime I had a break during the day. Shortly afterward, the Lord Jesus Christ put on my heart to begin having Word Time in the weight room at the school during lunch period.
No football championship or accomplished goal in the weight room ever gave me peace. Only when I decided to follow Jesus did that hole in my heart fill with that peace from the Lord.
I no longer have to perform for the world, but have hidden my life in Christ Jesus. Now all things have become new and old things are passed away. Sweet victory is guaranteed! Hallelujah!!
Over the next several years God began to send kids hungry for the Word. There was a good mixture of kids come to the Word Time, but God was also drawing those in that did not fit the classic role of a good student.
As a matter of fact, some of them did not even go to their classes!
God touched my heart, and I was reminded He was in charge as He began to send kids from every background (gangs, athletes…) for information about Jesus.
Today God has blessed our school ministry massively. The Word is making a difference in the lives of parents, teachers, and coaches. We minister to 100-300 kids every week from 7th to 12th grades. We have about five different groups to meet every week, and a disciple group that meets once a month.
The disciples are those that feel they are called to do more for the Lord. The Lord said, “Make them doers of the Word, not hearers only.”
We are starting to see miracles, physically and spiritually, all over. People are being healed, spiritual ears are popping open, blind eyes can now see the things of the Lord.
We have an expectation that the Holy Spirit will lead us to do the work He needs done in our schools, communities, work places, and our homes. Doors for ministry outside of the school have begun to open as well, as we’ve had the opportunity to speak at multiple churches, evangelize on the streets, and let Jesus make an impact through us everywhere we go.
God is taking our schools back. The Bible was the first book in the public school and it is a lie from the pit of hell when someone says there is a “separation of church and state.” We will not bow to the works of darkness, but continue in the things of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
“Go ye into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.”
